[006] — Tommy The Clown × Caffeine
The Showdown Throwdown
A three-month live dance competition series for Tommy the Clown on Caffeine, from weekly shows to a championship finale.
[01] The Brief
The Showdown Throwdown was a three-month live dance competition series produced for legendary entertainer Tommy the Clown on Caffeine, pairing weekly talk-show programming with live competitive events to build storylines, audience investment, and recurring viewership.
Twelve of the best dance crews in the SoCal area competed across round robin battles, eliminations, and a championship finale, with the audience shaping outcomes through real-time voting in the Caffeine app.
[02] My Role
As Producer, I managed production logistics and coordinated execution across departments for the full season: pre-production planning, run of show development, production scheduling, talent communication, and coordination between the creative and technical teams.
On show days I supported live production directly: show timing and pacing, segment management, and troubleshooting issues mid-broadcast, working alongside the Executive Producer, Director, Engineering, Graphics, Camera, and Lighting teams from rehearsal through live execution.
[03] The Format
Weekly episodes built anticipation between competitions: match predictions, competitor interviews, crew rivalries, and dance culture conversations that carried storylines into the battles. Every other week the series went live with round robin battles, judge scoring, live commentary, and real-time audience voting.
The season closed with a championship finale featuring the top three crews: showcase performances, crew battles, one-on-one battles, and live judging in front of a voting audience.
[04] The Operation
Unlike a one-off livestream, every episode had to advance the larger narrative while staying technically reliable. Keeping that consistent across a season came down to standardized workflows, detailed production documentation, and tight communication between camera, graphics, lighting, audio, talent, and the control room on every broadcast.
